Robert Kallus

I am dedicated to helping people make positive changes, solve problems, and find healing and peace through the shared effort that unfolds within the client/therapist relationship. I believe that transformation happens when people willingly accept the need for change, firmly believe that change is possible, and find the vision and courage to move forward. When these conditions are in place, hope, healing, and relief are possible for those whose problems seemed insurmountable.

HOPE

“Hope is like a bird that senses the dawn and carefully starts to sing while it is still dark.” – Anonymous

“I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.” - Dalai Lama

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” – 1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 7

I’ve heard it said that, given the history of the world, the view of pessimists is accurate, but that optimists are happier. I’ve also heard the question asked, “Would you rather be right, or would you rather be happy?” Hope flourishes when our vision is open to new possibilities. It shrivels when our view is self-focused, narrow, and closed. I hope to empower my clients to gain exciting new ways of seeing themselves and their situations, which will help them find their own solutions.

HEALING

Not everyone comes to a therapist for healing. For those suffering from a painful history, what’s needed is a safe place to vent feelings, to share secrets, and to have a trustworthy confidante nearby who hears without judging. I aim to provide a balance of compassion, genuine caring and honest feedback for all my clients, with special care to create a safe haven. The healing of emotional pain takes time, and for some people, a long time. My commitment is to stay with the process as long as the client continues to benefit.

RELIEF

There’s the old joke about the man who makes a habit of banging his head against the wall. When asked why he does that, he says, “It feels so good when I stop!” It’s my wish that every client will feel so relieved after completing our work, that they can say “so long” with confidence and with no regrets, except for regretting all the time they’d spent as head-bangers. And when they feel they no longer need help, they fire me. That’s how it’s supposed to work, and it’s my ultimate goal.
